Often when selecting objects I unwillingly select the x-ref as well. Can the x-ref be made "untouchable" in some way?

create a layer...insert/move the xref to that layer...lock that layer...

I believe in later versions in the selection settings under options you can also choose not to select xref's.

I had a hunt for it in 2007, but couldn't find anything. Maybe it's a 2008 feature. If I remember, I'll check when I get back to work tomorrow.

I've checked with a friend who has 2008 but in the OPTION > SELECTION dialogue box there's no option to prevent the selection of x-ref

Thanks, Riga. I can now safely forget about checking tomorrow. I'm getting "Old Timers", you know.

just wondering if this is what rustysilo is refering to...

on my version of 2008 from the help files...

locked layers, turning off object selection previewing...Xrefs
Excludes objects in xrefs from selection previewing. This option is on by default. (PREVIEWFILTER system variable)

attached is a *.jpg image of where to find it...just note that the "advanced preview" window comes from the "advanced options" button...i haven't played with any of the settings so i don't know how well it works...then again it's simply a selection previewing thing which i doubt it has anything to do with making xrefs "untouchable"...
