Only if somebody can help me get re-connected Tiger :(

Tiger
24th Oct 2007, 12:39 pm
yeah...too bad I have no experience what so ever with wireless connections...

You have switched the wireless thingy on I suppose?

Strix
24th Oct 2007, 12:44 pm
that's the problem - it won't switch on

I think I need to change my sig - looks like nobody reads the 'catch all' section :shifty:

Do you have a wireless switch on the casing or do you need to use the "FN" + "1" keys?

It took me a trip to PC World to finally realise there wasn't an external wireless switch on mine...

I have a pretty illuminated button with a transmitter symbol on it that usually does the job, but it's adamant it's staying off :reallymad:

Strix
24th Oct 2007, 12:54 pm
The HP wireless assistant won't open either - or doesn't exist - I'm not sure which

Run it into a computer shop... unless it needs work doing they should have a look for free?... I'm afraid I have no more suggestions :(

Tiger
24th Oct 2007, 12:57 pm
I meant the actual thing that transmitts the wireless signals....

I'll just back out - Strix sounds like she's about to start flayling those boots all over the place..*scurries off*

Strix
24th Oct 2007, 01:21 pm
the wireless router must be working else I wouldn't be able to post from the old Evo

I've just rung HP - they're sending me an engineer

Tiger

Strix, I only came here because I noticed Tiger had replied to a thread, so I decided to check it out.

I can't help you either, my set up is a transmitter/receiver at the phone, and a little dongle thingy that plugs into a USB port on the computer.

Strix
24th Oct 2007, 01:34 pm
my wireless transmitter/receiver on the 510 is internal - or was

this Evo works on a slot in card

zars

It's not the router/modem, did you check you got the driver for you wireless card? if they reinstalled the OS or for some reason they changed the wireless card you might not have the driver.

I'd suggest you to take a look to the driver/support site of HP and look for your HP model.

How do you know if you don't have the driver? if you have Win Xp right click on My Pc icon and go to properties then go to the hardware tab next device manager, if you have yellow icons then you're missing some drivers.

And then, Strix, get on MSN and let us know. I'll leave mine on all day, just in case.

Strix
25th Oct 2007, 01:03 am
I think as it's in warranty, and they've ordered it a spare part, and they're coming to my house to fix it, I'll leave it alone

the last thing I need is for them to accuse me of naffing it up - you know what these electrical companies can be like!

GE - go look for my wedding dress pic

Alan - pick you for what?

... and before we get this thread pulled for chatting in the wrong section...

He's been - he's frightened of dogs, and the new wireless card made diddly squat difference

another call to HP then

:P No worries mate, a lot of the members have done the same assumption regarding Strix!

..somehow I never had that problem...except with real newcomers

I think that might have something to do with the Avatar? :P

C'mon, GE, don't tell me you thought our Strix was a man, as opposed to wo-man. Why do you think we treat her with kid gloves? She's part of that Viking gang.  :P

Hey as I mentioned earlier this week- I'm not on form right now... so I'm approaching this thread with extreme caution each time now...

Sincerely Strix, my most humble apologies..

Strix

don't worry about it GE - it's a reputation I'm happy with - and I rarely let people know they're wrong!

Now the number of people on another forum who thought I was male was funny - I was doling out advice on house renovation and DIY :D ... now you'd have to know what Yorkshire men are like to enjoy that as much as I did

oh, and Alan can laugh - he's the one who thought I was a male cross dresser when he saw the wedding dres pic - so convinced was he that I was male

oh, and the avatar is a photoshopped image of a Pandrol clip drawn in pastels on sugar paper

Hehehe I know pretty much what they're like as I'm borderline Yorkshire myself (just lived on the northern edge) :)

Now... have I done this right...

oh, and Alan can laugh - he's the one who thought I was a male cross dresser when he saw the wedding dres pic - so convinced was he that I was male

 Well that makes me feel a little better

By the way... how's it going with your wireless?... :shifty:

Strix

rubbish - thank you for asking :P

I suppose I could stick a lead in it and see if it'll connect to the internet that way for now

GE13579

It should do, just won't be able to walk around the house with it. :)

Alan Cullen
25th Oct 2007, 02:18 pm
That's what I'm also thinking of doing at the moment. My wireless connection keeps dropping out lately.

GE, she only had me going for one post. The next post I exposed her, and she had to admit to the forum she was actually wo-man.

I think so. So Strix what's the problem of using the MSN in the computer you're currently using?

MSN messenger became Windows messenger, so now I need to update it to be able to run it at all (apparently) :(

judging by how slow this thing currently is, I'd not like to risk overloading it with anything more high tech than it's already running :(

zars
25th Oct 2007, 11:31 pm
I see Strix but there are a lot of websites that allow you to connect to MSN via html, of course you won't have all of the options but you could give it a try.

Strix

problem sorted out!

Strix
26th Oct 2007, 11:44 pm
thank you zars :)

now how do I explain to HP that a friend in Mexico sending me screenshots in Spanish was able to achieve what their flaming 3rd party engineers couldn't with the machine in front of them? :glare:

Good one Zars. You have to get up early in the morning to be a better computer systems engineer than our Zars. It's a bit like our Tiger, she's Swedish, but is always correcting our English on the FAQs.  o:)
