Is there a way to save the .bak files in a separate folder than the dwg files in ACAD2007LT?

quasi, I think alans method will only change the auto-save (.sv$) file location not the .bak file.
personally I have hardly ever had to use the .bak file as it is not current or as up-to-date as the temporary backup file.
What do you do with your .bak files ?:)

I believe your right and that only changes your autosave path. in looking at autocad help ISAVEBAK variable can be set to 0 which doesn't create a .bak file I found nothing about being able to set the path differently.

If I do a Qsave on a drawing, the .bak file is saved to the same folder as the drawing. That, to me, is where it should be saved.

I agree but I spose if they were all in the same folder it would be quicker to browse to them. :?

I don't use the bak files at all. They are just in the way. I felt that if I saved them to a separate folder they'd be out of the way. Turning them off is just as good.
Thanks.

don't the .baks disappear if you have your hidden folders hidden?

Not in LT, as far as I know.
In full AutoCAD, with express tools installed, you can use the MOVEBAK command.

I find that it is just one of things in autocad. I save periodically anyway and keep my SAVETIME at 10 therefore I have two options if we have a power glitch or whatever. This has saved my bacon more than once. I do however go into projects and periodically clean out old baks as it can take up a lot of server space after a while with a lot of large drawings with images, etc...

.SV$ files? Never use.

But BAK files can save you way down the road.
I would push for more storage and never delete them.
Disk storage is cheap.

You can save a DWG today, delete the BAK file in 6 months, then try to open the DWG a year later and what do you do if it's corrupt? If you had the BAK, it may be OK.

true enough... point taken.... unfortunately with 100+ people we can fill them pretty quickly and unfortunately IT is cheap!
I use the .sv$ quite a bit as I get booted out of Land desktop frequently, hatching large areas, creating large surfaces (tins) and using large images. I find most of the time that is more current than my .bak. I try to remember to do a QSAVE before I think autocad will crash but sometime we forget. I clean my temp file pretty regularly so I still rely on the bak. too
