Switch A Xref Layer Off

i have a drawing with an xref attached, there are also other drawing using this xref. I want to switch of a layer called landscape so it is not displayed on my drawing but is still displayed on the other drawings. How can I do this? i can freeze in in the drawing but when I close and save changes, then re-open the drawing the layer is back on again??

sounds like your VISRETAIN is set to 0 visual retain keeps the layer changes that you make in a drawing once it is open stay that way otherwise it reverts to what the layer state was before when you reopen it. give that a try set to 1 close and reopen
