is there one? or do you have to export to another program, i.e. AutoCAD or something else? Thanks all. :)

am I missing something? I thought the whole point of sketchup was that it was easy to produce rendered drawings with? (or are the available materials not real enough?)

We purchased Turbosketch Studio (http://www.turbosketch.net/) a while back when it was on a great sale...some of the examples on their site look pretty amazing. I think you can usually get for around $50.
Regretfully, I've had too much other scheist to do lately and haven't had time to play with it beyond the bare basics.

Okay - I'm converted :D
I need to find a rendering course to do - but not at the local tech - the guy running the department there is a grade one......... *cough*
... and I don't like the way the machines are set up to slow down the process of drawing (everything seems to need too much confirmation before it'll do anything :? )
I really should get back to work - I'm missing CAD - how sad does that make me? :geek:

Maxwell render costs a few hundred Euro (895 + 295 per extra node/cpu).
Kerkythea and Indigo are free alternatives.

I though Indigo would be an interesting alternative.
After some (very short) testing I find that I am more efficient with Maxwell or Flamingo than with any free programs I have tried.
The free programs may give the same result, but you have to compare user friendliness also.

I must admit that I am starting to like the Kerkythea render more and more. With the new SU2K add-on it is pretty easy to get a good render. I would give it a try 1st since it will only cost you your time. Now for a rendering program for exterior views I would look at Vue. It rocks! It starts at $100 IIRC.

It's probably fair to tell I am selling it (Maxwell, Rhino, Flamingo, Alibre Bricscad ++) in Norway, so I am not completely neutral :)
But i will look again at the free alternatives!

That's cool and I have no problem with re-sellers having opinions. It's people like revit3D and antithenes that are the ones that need to be kept in check. I like what I see from Maxwell and I also like Rhino but they just go way over board. If I had the cash I would probably look long and hard at Maxwell. But for my need Kerkythea looks to fit my need. ;)
it's good to have experts around for opinions.

You can see some interesting examples on Wikipedia, Autodesk editing the SolidWorks article and vice versa.

Check out Podium as well. It runs directly inside of SU.

Podium is nice but it is still the Kerkythea rendering engine. The writers of the plug-in just made it a bit easier to navigate and setup. Still worth a look.

Thanks, that's an important feature to me. I think setup time is more important than rendering time.

Good call and good advice. I'd say give both a try. I have had great results with just using the free Kerkythea plugin. I am going to try Podium. It better knock me off my feet for $179. For that I could buy a copy of Vue Easel.
