I am forcing myself to draw in 3D in AutoCAD 2000 after a lifetime in 2D. I need all the help I can get but most of it is making sense - until I get to rendering.
I have done some test drawings of childrens wooden building blocks and stacked them in different ways. No problem in wireframe, removing hidden lines, rotating the view, so I tried to render them in a light wood grain - photo real. The problems were:
I lost the edges of the individual blocks so the constuction looked as if it was cut from one piece. How can I get the edges to show and have a new grain image on the adjacent block as in "real" life?
I got the grain but the grain direction made no sense - side grain at 90 deg, to top grain etc. How do I change that?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Tony, how about a few pictures of where you are so we can get a better idea of your problems? Welcome to the forum BTW ;)

Tweak the AMBIENT light down, within LIGHT command.
Add a spotlight, kepping adjusting, re-rendering, adjusting ..........

PS Of course there is Inventor, much easier andmore effective.

you need to loook into mapping ~ you use it to define how the material is attached to the solid

That was my guess and why I wanted to see an image to be sure.
