I am working for a small company with 2 drafters for our production line. I am currently exploring the possibility of upgrading to 2008 (currently using 2005). I have contacted the local Autodesk retailer, and received information that he has available.

The main issue to the owner is of course price, but there is not too much I can do about that. We use the 3-d capabilities for 2005 to the max, so I think that the upgrades from 2007 would really justify the purchase.

Can anyone tell me how much faster it is to edit 3-d models from experience? Obviously it would depend on the complexity of a model. We do very complex models, and very simple ones, depending on the project, then break them down for carpenters / steel fab to produce the product.

Also are there any further benefits that may not be listed in the brochures?

Thanks for the advice.

Well I can tell you one thing, the 3D tools and general format is WAAAAY better in 2007+. but AutoCAD still lacks in many, many ways when it comes to 3D machinery part design, only compared to other highly advanced programs in certain applications. I can't give a good analysis on a justifiable cost by the details you have given, however you could make a better judgement if you want to download the 30 day free trial from Autodesk.com.

From experience I can tell you that yes, the 3D capabilities are far superior and easier than version 2006 and below, but the one thing that still remains is that AutoCAD isn't geared to "specific" 3D design, while other programs are such as Inventor or Solid Works, not to mention many more. Hope this helps ya some. more people on this board will follow with their thoughts as well i'm sure. :)

Yeah I think that I will download the demo. The onlything I am afraid of is that I will like it too much, and then they won't let me get it.

If this helps, here is a link to where I work. http://www.southwestscenic.com I do the drawings for all of the custom work.

Thanks for the advise. If anyone else has any input, feel free.
