View Full Version : make an object bigger with same dim.

I draw a box around one object on my drawing and then press spacebar.
I press CTRL + C then move to another drawing.
I move cross hair & left mouse click then press CTRL + V.
The object is now embedded in my other drawing.
To make it larger so it is in proportion to the whole drawing I use "scale" and then drag my mouse.
Question: How do I make it bigger but keep the same dimension. If I could do this then it would be dimensionaly correct with the rest of the drawing.

First of all, I moved this topic to a more suitable board.
Second, your question is rather confusing. In theory, if you copy and paste an object from one drawing to another, the dimension should not change. Are you using different units in each of the two drawings? If so, you should be able to work out a scale factor to convert from one to another.

If you just want to override the automatic annotation of the dimension and replace it with your own text, that's very easy.
Use the text edit command DDEDIT, select your dimension. You will see the text "<>" in the edit box. Just replace this with the text you want.

That is exactly what I needed to know.
You have just saved me a great deal of frustration.
Sorry for the confusion. I wasn't sure exactly what it was that needed to be done or even if it could be done.

If something changes it's dimension then by definition it's size changes. That's the whole point of SCALE it allows a REDUCTION or ENLARGEMENT of an entity, oops, object.
