I am sorry bugging you guys with the Extrude command. Anyone available to make a tutorial step by step using this two different commands and maybe some explanations?

Specially that extrusion along a path is very interesting. I have two boxes and want to extrunde faces along a path ( that is an arc between the boxes). I was trying to change UCS but each time I received the same unhappy result.

Any idea?

Post a picture of the 2d items and what you want to do.
ie..take a screen pic (of you autocad screen) and maybe bring it into MS paint or better and put what you want to see and I will take a stab at it for you.

Hit F1 and type in EXTRUDE within the search. If you struggle with that
then post up as we offer, to get help.

UCS is the key to doing 3D, a tough concept at first but just like
those chocs with a soft centre, worth the wait !

Right now I have another question about render. After I render with a demo from AR3, on the window of raytrace I have a picture with many horisontal black lines.

Any idea why is that and how to eliminate that problem. Picture available on request.

Most likely this is a limitation of the demo version. Many render demos put horizontal bars or watermarks on the final image to prevent you using them commercially.

This post is rather off topic but I'll let it pass this time

Well, I solved the extruding problem along an arc path and landed in the render problem. That is why I posted here.

I just thought my computer was not compatible with the ar3 and that is why I ask it.

Thank you for understanding

I just checked the Accurender web site and this is what it says about the trial version:

Try before you buy. This is a fully functional version except it has limited materials, light fixture, and plant libraries, and it also draws thin black lines across the final rendered image.

If anyone else would like to try Accurender, you can find it here: http://www.accurender.com/download.htm

I have started a tutorial on extrude and revolve. It's not finished but you can look at it here.

Thank you SJ

That is a great site with explicit tutorials. Do you know that you give me homework?

Thank you so much SJ and looking forward to new great sites.

It isn't finished yet !. Check back AM tomorrow, Tues 17/12 in my timezone. The text is not finished. Read the command line carefully. I use three lines of command text so I can see all settings etc.

I will add the path tutorial tonite.

phew !

I finished off the revolve and extrude tutorial. What a chore
converting from Corel DRAW to html.

Maybe I should just post them up as *pdfs ?

Nick

Can be found on www.autocadzone.com in the pulldown menu under

Mr.T, you posted a great tutorial. I am just going thrue it but of course encounting problems. It looks like I am learning in the hard way.

Everything went well until REVOLVE command. I get the answer>

Command: revolve

Current wire frame density: ISOLINES=4
Select objects: 1 found

Select objects:

Unable to revolve the selected object.

Someting is not right and I am not able to find it. Do you have any idea?

it is probably that the object you are trying to revolve, I presume a polyline, is not closed. When drawing a polyline after the last point type C to close it. Alternatively use properties to close it.

I have just updated the tutorial to add 'using propeties'

It may be that your 'axis of revolution is not compatible. I suggest you load up the completed file and see what I have done/used.

I deliberately did not use/change the UCS to avoid stumping people who do not understand that.

I have closed the polyline with C but not with properties. I will re/draw it and post what is happenig.

I checked and the polyline is closed with C and properties.
I was trying to revolve the box and after marking it the same dialog showed up> Unable to revolve the selected object.
So the question marks about my axes are premature at this point.
I am wondering why does not want to revolve the polyline.

Anyone going thrue this tutorial and using cad2002?

Okay.

It can't be closed. It will only revolve a closed object (entity)

I'm sure 2002 is the same. Have you loaded my file from the tutorial site ?

Good luck

Nick

PS email me the file that won't revolve

I finally download it the tutorial file. hope that will help.

still have the question, how to close a polyline.

CADTutor
20th Dec 2002, 02:37 pm
To close a Polyline, use the "C" to Close option while you are using the polyline command. Alternatively, you can close a polyline after it is drawn using the Properties Panel.

To close a Polyline, use the "C" to Close option while you are using the polyline command. Alternatively, you can close a polyline after it is drawn using the Properties Panel.

Get the properties panel up by using Ctrl+1 keys.

Here is a screen shot with an open polyline and 'properties docker' up.

Thank you for answers. I closed the polylines as above mentionate it ans I thought it was other ways as well.

Nick, thank you for help. Great tutorial you wrote and looking forward to see other exercises as well.

I finally solved the revolving problem. I had to explode the polyline before revolving the polyline. Than everything went nice without trouble.
The same exercise I solved with "extruding along a path" and I can conclude now, your way is the best and getting better results.

Now I am going solved the other commands in your great tutorial.

I really appreciate your and others help

Merry Xmas to everyone
