Drawing resigster database.

I'm in need of a project to do in between cad work and I was thinking about the way we have our drawing issue sheets all kept in a file and everytime the drawing goes up a revision we have to go and find the word file update it on our computers then print it off. How handy would it be to have a database and then the editing and searching of these sheets would be easier.

How do you guys do it, does anyone have a drawing database? Does it work well for you? What was it created in.

I'm thinking of using Access.
