I am using Autocad 2008 civil 3d LDD.

What does it mean when my drawing's Insertion base is
X: 1769755.99 Y: 556463.22 Z: 0.00 ?

What does changing a drawing's insertion base from 0,0,0 do? Why would someone want to do that?

Thanks

If you were to insert that dwg into another, the above coords would be at 0,0,0 in the new dwg (if you inserted it at 0,0,0). Why? Maybe it was done to translate coordinate systems (e.g. local vs. state plane) and they wanted to preserve the original coord system.

You can change it with the _BASE command.

I use Civil 3d 2008 also. One thing I can caution you on, it is CRITICAL that the coordinates are the same. Otherwise what happens is the spot elevations will end up way out in outer space. Also the contour lines will not line up properly, which leads to a real disaster.
