View Full Version : make model into solid

I have enclosed a screen-grab of a simple vessel created by an ellipse, a guide curve and a filled surface. It has been thickened to 1/16". I need to find out how much of a volume of liquid it will hold. A tools/mass-properties will only yield the volume of the solid itself. It follows that I need to deduct this 1/16" (solid) thickness from the total, if it's entirety were solid, for the volume figure that I need.
The help files tells that to create a solid using the thicken tool, "enclose all surfaces", which I did with a planar surface, however I still do not get the option to "create a solid from the enclosed volume".
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Can you post the part? Off-hand I would use the Delete Face command on the surfaces toolbar to delete the two outside faces. That would leave only the inside as a surface body. I would project that edge (circle) to a sketch and then Extrude - Up to Surface. Check the resulting volume.
You might not have to Delete Face at all but check to Not Merge bodies when extruding - this will give you two solid bodies - the bowl and the contents. Probably a couple of other ways as well.

Thanks again.
