View Full Version : Invalid or Obsolete Login

I'm having a lot of trouble logging in. It was hit and miss all day yesterday. I would enter my id and password and it told me it was invalid or obsolete. I would enter it again and it would say the same thing. I go take a break for a few minutes and come back and enter my info and I would log in fine. I go to a post and go to reply to the post and have to log in again. Or what's really frustrating is it would let me click Reply to Post but then wait until I submit what I wrote and then make me log in and then tell me what I entered was invalid or obsolete. So hopefully I can get this posted without having to log in again
Thanks David. Hopefully it's something simple.

Hmm. I haven't come across that one before. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Did this start just recently or last week after the forum moved?

It started after the forum moved and it was at its worst yesterday. I had trouble loggin in this morning but after a few tries it let me in.
Maybe it's me  No body loves me :(

Wow...how did it do that? :?
David, I just read your post

My reply was placed before your question as if I replied before you asked the question?
Curiouser and curiouser. Maybe you have gremlins in the software
Or aliens :alien: (I  these new emoticons)

There are a few weird things about your posts too. If you look at your response to my reply in this thread, you'll notice that it's been placed above it!
There appears to be something wrong with the timings - that would explain a few other things but right now I'm not sure what the root of the problem is.

David...it's only when I reply to a post here. I replied to a post elsewhere in the forum and it was fine.

That's because more than one hour has elapsed since the last post in that thread. The datestamp on your post is one hour behind everuone else - either that or mine is one hour ahead :!:
I'm working on it...

I looked at the time on my post and it is the same as the time on my computer.
Hope this helps.

For some reason, your posts are one hour behind mine and so appear above them in the thread - weird. I need to investigate - anyone else noticed weird stuff?

I just thought of something that might create an issue in the future. The U.S. will be falling back an hour this weekend (I think). Will we have to change our time in our profiles?
Don't you just love technology?

All the times are GMT in my settings.
Changing dates is a trick of newsgroup spammers.

OK, there seems to be a problem with the time on the servers where this forum is hosted. The forum is "load balanced", which means that it's spread across a number of servers. It looks like at least one of the servers is not synchronised with the others. This causes times on the forum to fluctuate by one hour.
Needless to say, I have contacted my host and hope to get this resolved soon. This time fluctuation will cause a number of unusual behaviours, so hang on while I get it sorted.

OK, the weird time thing is now resolved. I just had an email from the hosting company:
One of the server's clocks was 1 hour out. This has been corrected and you shouldn't see this problem again. I hope this has been of help.
I think this should resolve a lot of the issues that we've experienced since the move but if you're still having problems, let me know and I'll try to sort them out. :geek:

Thanks David.
Also, things seem to be better with the logging in issue. I haven't had to re-login since day-before-yesterday. :)
