lost views

Hi,

I am running Inventor 5. Yesterday I drew a model and then opened a new sheet and placed all my views and dimensions.
When I opened the IDW file this morning all my views and dimensions were gone.

Anyone have any ideas as to what happened? I have other drawings the loaded up just fine.

Did you save? Dare I ask why you are using Inventor 5 and AutoCAD 2008?

I am running 5. I didn't expect to see the AutoCad 2008 with my post. I'll have to watch for that next time.

Yes I did save. Quite a few times. Is there a way to make the drawing re-associated with the solid model? Some of my drawings were fine some not... That's what confuses me.

How do I change the AutoCad 2008?

Yes there is a way to re-associate the model with the drawing if that is in fact what happened. I haven't used IV5 so I am not sure if everything I have to say is applicable.

You can open the drawing in Design Assistant (was that available in IV5?) to check that it is in fact looking at a different model (if the resolve links window didn't come up when you opened the drawing I would not expect this to be the case though). Once you know that the drawing is looking for the wrong file you can rename the file it is currently looking at and when the resolve links window comes up, just point it to the correct file. Generally speaking though, if this was the case, I wouldn't expect the drawing to open at all let alone open but have no views in it. My gut feeling is that it just didn't save your work and I don't believe there is anyway to bring it back if it never saved.

You can also look in the "Oldversions" folder and see if there is a copy that you can resurrect that has the views still in it.

When I try to open the drawing a preview window in the lower left of the screen shows the complete drawing with all the views and dimensions. But when I click on open they dissapear when the drawing loads.

The preview is just a pretty picture snap-shot, not the actual geometry.

No. To attach a file here click on the paperclip icon above just right of center (when you click to add a reply).

Because of file size limitations you might have to zip each file separately.

I zipped the two seperate files but I received a error message saying that even the single files were too large.
