Has anybody out there got any basic tutorials using CATIA V5R3?
I am trying to widen my CAD knowledge and must admit that books on the subject are really too expensive for me to buy!
Your help would be much appreciated.

I must admit that I'd never heard of CATIA. Can you give us some background?

CATIA, which stands for Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application, is the most powerful and widely used CAD (computer aided design) software of its kind in the world. CATIA was created by Dassault Systems of France and is marketed in the U.S. by IBM.

It was originally developed by the french Dassault company purely for aerospace use. The sub-contractors used it as well.

Just going offtopic for a moment
What does CAD mean? I've heard several variants of it; Computer Aided Drafting, Computer Automated Drafting, and now computer aided design...
Which is the correct one?

CAD is generally considered (at least by me!) to stand for Computer Aided Design. Sometimes you will see the acronym CADD which stands for Computer Aided Drafting and Design.
Sadly, in recent years the term CAD has become somewhat of a dirty word in design circles. The poor quality of many CAD drawings, produced by inexperienced users being mainly to blame. I now refer to what I do as being "Digital Design". In theory, CAD should cover all aspects of design with a computer (as the name would suggest) but it has come to be associated specifically with vector drafting applications like AutoCAD (and CATIA?). Since my design "tools" cover a whole range of software types, I consider "Digital Design" to be a better description.

So does this mean that CATIA is outside the public realm and that this is the reason why there is a lack of publicly available tutorials or affordable manuals?
