I have been working on autcad files for some of our components for months. I attached one of these files to another file as an x-ref. When I tried openning the host file, it just displayed a drawing template with an x-ref missing. Under the status column on x-ref manager, it say "not found"

When I try to open the x-ref file from explorer window, I am prompted to choose an pplication. On the list that comes up, autocad program is missing, when I go to browse, still I cannot locate Autocad. I have no idea of what happened, any iseas folks?

This is a little confusing. You said you can open your host drawing, so that means Autocad exists on your system. But then you say that when you try to open the xref drawing, Autocad is missing? :?

What is the file extension on the xref drawing? is it .bak? Could it be that the xref drawing file was deleted? If so, just rename the xref file by changing the .bak to .dwg.

.....When I try to open the x-ref file from explorer........

Thats a big No-No. Opening files from the Windows Explorer does not let AutoCAD get it's **** together before opening a file. In LDT, it can trash your file. Do Not Do it!
Open AutoCAD, THEN open drawings. I know it can be a hard habit to break, but you'll be better off for doing it.

 Who told you that? :? I've been using Autocad for 18 years and I have never once had a file get trashed because I opened it from Windows Explorer. I don't know about LDT, but this is not a problem for plain Autocad.

Well, I will just put aside those who came up with negative responses characterized by harsh words to drawn on their sorrows.

:? What negative responses? What harsh words?

you who dispute what I experienced, you better go and learn english course it looks like you fail comprehend even simple phrases on my explanation.

 Nobody is disputing what you are experiencing. I am just trying to understand exactly what is happening.
:glare: I won't even respond to the rest of this comment.

any one who can help is welcome, those who boost of years of acad exp and yet their exp cannot help are not welcome

:glare: You have a lot to learn about forum etiquette my friend.
How about answering the question that I asked you? Does the xref file exist or was it deleted?

Sometimes we have to ask questions in order to get all the information necessary to help you. If you are unable or unwilling to go through the process of narrowing down the possibilities until a resolution can be found, then I wash my hands of you. I have been a contributing member of this forum for two years and I have never been insulted like this when trying to offer a helping hand.

The comments in my second post were not even in response to you, they were in response to Arizona's comments about not opening files from Explorer. I have never experienced problems like that and I have never heard of anyone else ever experiencing problems like that either. It had absolutely nothing to do with you or your problem.

And if you are angry at me just because I didn't understand the problem you are experiencing, well, that's your problem.

I'm done with this thread, and ACADADA, you can consider this bridge burned. :x

ACADADA,

Looks like you just blew it, sunshine.

If there was ever a member who helps anyone and everyone, it is Cad64.

Now you have managed to upset him, I doubt very much if anyone is now going to help you. :x

ACADA - Dear Sir or Ms

please let it go!

We -and I mean all of us not really having English as our 1st language are appalled by your unproffesional approach to peer2peer helpsystems!

Just to reinvite such discourse, here's an analysis on your 1st message:

I have been working on autcad files for some of our components for months.Autcd -- AutoCAD "am i wrong?"
f
or some of our components -- "What the #¤%ll?"

When I try to open the x-ref file from explorer window, I am prompted to choose an pplication. On the list that comes up, autocad program is missing, -- WHERE ARE YOUR THE - IT - AM -

Sorry for the rant but ACADA is so far off the "whatever" that I had to have a go!

In Finnish: "Hyvää Uuttavuotta! ie Happy newYear!

It is a real problem with Land Desktop. There's a lot of project specific front end setup with that program that needs to happen proir to opening drawings. It makes a real mess if you open from explorer. This has been an ongoing argument for many years.

Anyway, dosen't it sound like he just needs to hit "save path" in the xref manager? Are his xref's and the sheet files in different folders?

@ mahahaavaaha

The person who told you that English is not my first language was totally misleading you. You have a lot to learn; when we post messages on discussion forums, we often do so under intense pressure since there is a lot to do on each day. This tend to compell someone to type at a speed and hence mistakes are common. Moreover, you can t compare this to a college dissertation where the entire writing has to be professional and absolutely free from grammatical mistakes. The intention here to convey short, precise but explicit technical message.

You probably have nt been taught communication skills. We live in a business world were time management is a factor of your overall success. good luck

I have no problem with answering questions and clarifying my message. I am still convinced that the very first few responses I got were too abrupt. The sounds like people being arogant and boosting of their vast experience in using ACAD. I can quote someone saying "I have been using ACAD for 18 years and you can t tell me this can happen"

Anyway, I am gona put this behnd me and move on, I had no intention of joining the forum to engage on useless arguments. I am sure all of you guys are going to follow suite.

You just don't get it, do you? :glare:

1. My response was not directed toward you. I was speaking to Arizona when I said that.

2. I said that I have never seen that happen in 18 years with the program. That doesn't mean that it can't happen. That just means that I have not seen it happen. There is a difference. Not everything is black and white.

3. As it turns out, this is a problem with Land Desktop, not Autocad, so my statement is correct and true.

You have stated that my help is not welcome, so you will not receive any help from me, on this or any other question. But if you continue to bash my credibility and my knowledge and experience with the program, I will continue to defend myself.

Perhaps this thread should be locked to prevent any further posting on this ridiculous misunderstanding.
As far as I'm concerned, this discussion is over.
