It's here. If it ain't visible. Type OPTIONS. Look for the profiles tab. Double click VANILLA. If it still doesn't work post up.

You do not need express tools to view the freeze. It's been in acad for donkeys. It'smore likely youhave change the menus.

If I read the original post correctly, I don't think Express Tools has anything to do with it. My guess is that it is a slight confusion over the layer status icons.
The Snowflake icon is only visible after a layer is frozen because it shows the layer state rather than an action. If no layers are frozen, you will not see any snowflakes. To freeze a layer, you must click on the Sun icon and when you do this it will turn into a snowflake. In the illustration below, layer "0" is not frozen and is shown with a Sun icon but layer "Layer1" is frozen and shown with a Snowflake icon.

To thaw a frozen layer, simply click the Snowflake and it will change to a Sun. Note that you cannot freeze the current layer although you can turn it off.

Cameron might also be looking for the LAYFRZ Express Tool, which allows you to freeze selected layers by clicking on them.

Is that not what vanilla cad does?

I'd post an image, but I can't find the file manager...what I'm talking about is the Express Tool that lets you freeze layers by clicking on them in the drawing, not in the layer pull-down or manager.

The File Manager can be found by clicking the File Manager icon at the top right of this (or any other) page. It looks like this: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/templates/subSilver/images/fileman.gif
