I'm using Autocad 2002 and I find myself lost. I've only ever set up actual part prints in Release 12 way back when. I have no problem modeling but setting up the correct views and assigning dims. I can set up viewports OK but figuring out how to show the part without all the lines showing and changing to hidden lines has me stumped. I know we had to use SOLREV ( I think it was) back in the dark ages and allow for the transformation but that's not working now... can anyone help guide me back to the future?

Solview made easy!

These are the steps I use for this process... works great for me anyway..

This will establish the UCS or base starting point, which all the view ports will be projected from.

STEP 1
· In model space, convert to single view port and change to top view.
· Go to layout and delete the current view port.
· Type in SOLVIEW, hit enter
· Type U, enter
· Type C, enter
· Type 1, enter
· Specify centre of view port
· Enter
· Specify size of view port by selecting upper left corner and create a rectangle a little less than ¼ the size of the sheet.
· Enter name of view port.
· Exit the command by hitting escape or enter and then resize the view port to fit in the upper left hand corner to give you room to project the new view ports.

Now go ahead and use the SOILVIEW command again to project the new view ports from the established UCS view port.

STEP 2
· Type in SOLVIEW, hit enter
· Type O, enter
· Select side of UCS view port to project from
· Enter
· Specify centre of view port
· Enter
· Specify size of view port by creating a rectangle a little less than ¼ the size of the sheet roughly where you want the new view port to appear..
· Enter name of view port.
· Repeat step 2 to insert the amount of view ports desired.

Exit the command by hitting escape or enter.

STEP 3
· Type SOLDRAW, enter
· Select all view ports
· Hidden lines need to be defined.
· In layers chose the hidden lines in the appropriate layout layers and load up the type of hidden lines desired.
· Regen all. Hidden lines should be visible, if not you may have to change your LTS.

STEP 4
· Type DISPSILH
· Enter new value = 1

Hey thanks a ton for the asistance. It's just been so long since I've had to do prints in a formal fashion I'd forgotten most I even knew, not to mention the changes in softwares. I'll give this a try this afternoon on some things I have to draw and see how that goes.

This solution works beautifully, however I'm having problems with dimensions disappearing. They show up on plots but seeing them to be able to judge where to place others is all but impossible. Any ideas?

Just my guess: is SHADEMODE set to 2D?

I've toggled Shademode around and that didn't help. I eventually just went back into model space, copyclipped the model and started a new drawing. It worked perfectly then... who knows why it wasn't before? Anyway I certainly appreciate the input.
