I don't know if I'm in the good Forum Category but here it is. I really have a hard time with the memory display between Windows and Civil 3D, as a result I always get FATAL ERROR: Out of Memory - Shutting down messages. Someone told me that there is a way of letting less memory to windows and more to the rest of the applications available. It's supposed to be done in the Boot.ini file that is located in the C:\ root and it's hidden. Now what I would like to know is what to write in the boot.ini file exactly because apparently if you don't write the right thing, you get scewed because Windows won't boot. So if any has ever had anything to do with this kind of problem or if you know a site of other forum that treats that kind of problems, please answer me, that would be of great help.

One thing you can do is go to your System Properties > Advanced tab and under Performance click Settings and click the button for "Adjust for best performance" and OK.

Does your computer meet the min. specs (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8915326) specified by Autodesk?

Here's something that may help as well.
Optimize the Performance of AutoCADĀ® Civil 3DĀ® (http://au.autodesk.com/sessions/detail/634/)

I don't know if this will help (only if you have more than 3 GB of ram)... probably the same info rustysilo posted.
