scrolling forward too sensitive

When I'm in perspective mode, and I want to move forward by scrolling the mouse wheel, it takes astronomical jumps. With just the slightest touch on the mouse wheel, at one minute I'm at one end of my model and the next I'm at the extreme opposite end. How can I lighten the sensitivity of the mouse wheel so that I can zoom in as though I were taking a nice relaxing stroll through my model?

It maybe is a windows setting on your mouse. Go to Control Panel in Windows, Mouse properties, and set the number of lines at a time for your mouse wheel.

Dunno if that's it, but it's my first guess.
