Hi eveybody !!
I m an electrician by trade but had two quarters training in autocad in college 4 years ago,( if you don't use it .. you loose it)
anyway, I m using autocad 2005 for a coordination drawing with other trades (make sure we are in clear path...),
here is my delama, while opening ref editing for a cable tray( move comand ) only a small portion of appear for editing, i move that small portion and the whole cable tray is moved after i save the changes and close the ref edit.
my question to you Senior users, How I can edit in these xref dwg freely without the delema of getting stuck!!
Thank you for the help in andvance!!

Hell. mate.

This will stir up a hornets nest.

Stay the hell away from xrefs. They are the worst thing you can ever have as an assistance.

I'm ready y'all. Prove me wrong.

zanecome,

Could you please etransmit the file and upload it so we can check it out.

Cheers

As a side note, Alan, just out of curiosity. If you had a base element of many drawings, example, building shell for floor plans, furniture plans, m&e plans, etc. How would you update it quickly throughout all drawings?

Hi again
Allow me to re-phrase the issue!
normally if the dwg is xref ( always is) I use Xref manager to reload/unload the I open the layer where I need to do my changes and save those changes to the drawing and that was it!!
now: I open xref manager and it is empty !! nothing to reload or unload !!??? I tried purge .. no success.
I tried and succeed in opening an editing session but it seems like the cable tray is a big block made out small blocks ( only a small portion of it is visible for editing what ever I do to it ? it will affect the whole cable tray after saving the changes and it all becomae visible !!
any help will be appreciated !
PS: Allan I know what you mean !!!
LEIkins I wish I could, I will be breaking company policy. ( you understand)
Thanks

Select what you believe to be an XREF, then select properties. In the Top Right it should tell you what it is. Sounds like someone did a BIND on the XREF and made it a Block.

You should be able to use BEDIT, I think in 2005 you should be able to double click the block and select the block to be modified on the left and then edit it as well.
