Hi,
I am pretty good with computers, and drawing programs like Photoshop. I am jusssttt starting to teach myself autocad. I build high detail models of farm equipment as a side income. Right now, I am trying to make a dwg of a particular tire so I can have a prototype cnc'd out and then I can mold and reproduce it. I have my dwg pretty close to what I want with one exception. I don't know to how alter the shape of my lugs (treads) yet. Can someone help me with that. Also, I would like to add some raised text to the sidewalls. I can probably figure that out pretty easy, but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thanks,
Jason

Just what alterations do you want to make to the treads?
What type of font did you have in mind for the raised lettering? I think it would have to be exploded then reassembled using the polyline edit command ("join" option) then extruded. Of course the text round have to be laid out in an arc as well.

... but we have a thread somewhere giving instructions on how to lay text in an arc - in case you were wondering :)

As for the text. How about getting the text as lines, and then use the imprint command?

Not sure what you want to do to the treads, but I think _SOLIDEDIT>Face>Move on the command line or from the drop down menu, Modify>Solid Editing>Move Faces or Move Faces on the Solid Editing toolbar. There is also Taper Faces, Delete faces, Extrude Faces etc.
Plenty of info on Creating 3D text and Arc Aligned text, just do a search.

Thanks for all the replies and help folks. I really appreciate it. Again, I've only been teaching myself this for about a week, so being pointed in the right direction is a huge help. I've messed around using your suggestions for about 5 minutes, and I think I'll be able to figure it out once I have a little more time. Below is a picture of how I would like my tread pattern to look. Thanks again :D

Could you mock out the actual shape of the lugs and extrude them into the tire then union everything? Can you can a template or a tracing of the shape?

Can you attach the file here.
I would use Revolve (surface)
Slice (with surface)
Extrude
Imprint (or other if you want raised lettering)
Have you done the tutorials in my signature?
