Yes, it is the pivot of the object and yes, you can change it. In the "Adjust Pivot" section of the Hierarchy panel, click the "Affect Pivot Only" button and then you can move the pivot point anywhere you want. Once you have the pivot point set, click the "Affect Pivot Only" button again to return to editing mode.

If you want to visit another helpful forum like this one, that is dedicated to 3DS Max, then you should head over to 3D-Palace (http://www.3d-palace.com/forum/index.php). It's full of professional Max users.

Yes, I'm aware of cgarchitect. It's a great site, but it's geared more toward those who already know Max and just need some advice from Max professionals. It doesn't offer the kind of free video tutorials that 3D-Palace does. That's why I always tell beginners to visit the Palace if they want to learn the program. Cgarchitect is more of a reference site, where 3D-Palace is more of a training site for beginners.

Although, this is all just my own personal opionion, of course. :P

yes your correct there are not alot of beginner tutorials there. I personally bought the books from 3dats.com and took a few classes from vismasters the beginners and architectural content class and that really helped out alot. I still suck but at least i can draw houses now and will only get better with practice.
