View Full Version : Rendering materials

When I render my architectural models there are never any materials representing what I would like to use.
Is there an architectural materials pack or something that when I select materials there will be selections such as:
Bricks - multiple brick selections
Weatherboard cladding
Roof tiles
Floor tiles
Colourbond fences
Timber fences
etc
This would appear much easier to select what I want than a whole heap of non specific images that have to be modified a lot to make the most basic finishes.
Is there also any decent landscape materials other than the same old ones they have offered that dont have many options and seem to be just a few American trees.
If anyone knows much about materials for rendering I would appreciate there help.
I am using Architectural desktop 2004.
Thank you

Hendie is right. Making your own materials is often the best way to get exactly what you want. Take a look at the Creating Custom Bitmap Materials tutorial (http://www.cadtutor.net/acad/acad2ki/bitmat/bitmat.html) for method. Also have a look at the Creating Seamless Tiles tutorial (http://www.cadtutor.net/dd/photo/seamless/seamless.html) for details on how to avoid those annoying seams when your images are tiled across an object.
Here are some examples to get you going:

Not exactly what you want but you get the idea...

Good links F7. The 3D Cafe materials are just random photos and although they are useful, they don't tile very well. The SketchUp materials, on the other hand, are excellent. They can all be tiled seamlessly and should look pretty good.
Oh, and welcome to the forum :)
