View Full Version : How do I get rid of the text box that follows the crosshair

Whenever I type a command, the words start appearing next to the crosshair as opposed to the command line. I looked all over the options menu to find something to change this. Is there a system variable to change this?

Its your dynamic input, click DYN or F12

Wow, that was simple. I apologize. I'm moving from 2000 to 2008 so there are WAY too many different things to get used to.

yeh, that would be a huge change, you should give the dynamic input a try tho, its very handy i dont know how i lived with out it before Autocad 2006. Now that im used to using the dynamic input i dont even use a command line which makes a heap more screen space (very valuable)

I didn't like the dynamic input either, but if it does away with the space the command line takes up, I can see the advantage! Thanks for the info!

I have been thinking of posting the exact same question.
thnks F12 does the trick but it may be worth keep using dynemic input if it saves the commanline space as mentioned by 97. but i guess it will take some time to get use to it.

I turned that annoying thing off the first week we installed. I use short commands for most of my snaps, which causes the mouse cursor to stop moving while a command is being typed in, and it slows me down.

You don't need to turn off dynamic input to get rid of the text box... just right click DYN button and have a play with the settings

I didn't like the look of using DYN input; but having given it a try for more than 10 minutes, I find now that I find it more difficult to work without it.

Right click brings up settings so you can modify to suit, if you so choose... are we crossing threads here?... :?

Alan, like I say- just because you use dynamic input doesn't necessarily mean you use cursor input... :P

Yahoooo, thanks all...

Yesterday I lost the 'down arrow key' to get the options (for a rectangle) and could not understand it, it has always worked before. DYN was on so why didnt it work?

'Settings' of course, thanks.

But why did it change anyway?

And why do these problems seem to occur when someone else is watching; I was drawing up some squares for my wife for her glass making. ' I don't understand it dear, it was working yesterday...'

Rule #1...NEVER, EVER, EVER let your wife play with your computer. That's like your wife letting you play with her, never happens. :P

I think you need - Tools, drafting settings then go to the dynamic input tab. You should find what you need here.

Yep MrMaggs... you can fine tune the settings to your preferences- just right click the DYN button and choose settings... the rest should be self explanatory

Well, Dipali got his 50, now, Gary 4 to go.

Big question, can you do it?

I personally hate that command box popping up beside my cross hairs. I guess I've been using acad for too long, and don't need to refer to a command line to know what's going on.

Comments anyone? :D

Well, at first I found DYN a little annoying, but I stayed with it and now do not think I would like working without it. I really like being able to select a grip on an object and type in length changes, angle changes, etc.
