I have been trying to connect arcs with rectangular shaped poly lines and can't seem to get it to work. I'm running AutoCAD 2008.

What does it tell you when you try to join them?

Im assuming your trying to join them into ONE Pline?.?

How about posting a pic of the problem or the drawing itself?

Have you tried Pedit>M (Multiple)?

you can do it with fillet (radius zero) or pedit-join.
sometimes that does not work than i select both objects, zoom in at the intersection & pick up the grip & move it exactly on top of eachother. than again try filet or join & it works fine.
:D :D

If you have a closed rectangular polyline, you cannot connect anything to it, because a polyline cannot branch. :(

it is not true. i am not sure about arc, but i have edited plines manytime using pedit>editvertex>insert and successfully added branches to plylines.
to add arc may be we need to break one of the lines of closed polyline & then draw & join arc in that place.:)

Did you notice that I said that you can't add to a closed polyline?

If you break it, it is no longer closed, and of course you can then add to it.

yes i agree  but pedit>editvertex>insert options adds a lines to closed polylines also without changing its property.

But you can't create a bifurcation :o

What's a bifurcation? See attached dwg: Closed Pline with Extruding "hair"

Very ingenious, but the Extruding "hair" is actually a double line, going there and coming back. This is shown by the picture which shows one of the vertexes moved.

As I said in the beginning, you cannot join to a closed polyline. You can edit vertices to your heart's content, but that is not joining an extra line to it. :(

This, however, is a single polyline, but there is a tiny gap at the top of the vertical leg.

Perhaps the OP was thinking of something like this :D

If he is trying to join arcs to closed polylines, groups or blocks would be the next best thing.
