g'day all,
got a few problems when we try to save IDW files to DWG files (do it quite alot), one of the most annoying i have, is that any tangent lines shown in drawing view (any orientation, ISO, ortho or other) change from the "normal" layer, to the reference geometery layer. to correct this we have to manually change the layers of tangent lines in acad.
anyone else have problems with this? any suggestions...

Not sure I understand, are you opening the DWG in Autocad?

that's correct.
We create IDW in inventor.
Save copy as *.DWG
Open the DWG in Acad and tangent lines appear as "reference geometry" would in inventor.
i'll try to remember to get a screen shot when i'm at work tomorrow.

I had this, the weird thing though was at home it worked fine, then when I opened at work I had all the lines. i used DWG viewer in the end.

When you select 'save as' in Inventor and select DWG, have you looked below where it says options, that will bring up the DWG export options, save to the lowest (2000) next I select model geometry only, best visual fidelity and under mapping options change it to Acad. See if that works?

Lazer - will that allow for reference geometry to save as well? or does it just eliminate the reference geometry?
will test myself on monday at work..
cheers

Not sure, I've not saved out as a dwg for a while, at one time I did do it all the time as I liked to use autocad to tidy up the Inventor idw's, however these days if we model it in Inventor we generate the 2d data in Inventor so I never get the chance to see how Autocad handles Inventors idw's. Let us know how you get on:wink:
