I have autocadLT 2005 on an older computer, upgraded from 2000i. I was wondering what I should do to move it to a new computer. I'm upgrading 2005 to 2008. Do I have to uninstall 2005 then go to the new computer and install 2000i then use the 2005 upgrade on that, then install the 2008 upgrade? What about registering it? How does this work after the uninstall?

Thanks for the help.

If you have your serial number that came with 2008 just install 2008 on your new computer and follow the prompts

If 2008 was an upgrade, won't the software first look for the 2005 Autocad .exe file?

As Azzarro said, since can't remember when and even then only LT had any backwards checking: Upgrades are totally new products and DO NOT need to have a previous version installed.

The other thing is that once you've installed and start registering it, you'll be asked for the s/n of the older version...

Good Luck!

Do you not need the previous version installed on the computer? If you can just install the 2008LT upgrade on the new computer, it will install the full 2008LT software? I'm guessing the only way this is possile is if you are already registered with 2005 and it detecs that then just installs the full 2008LT. Am I understanding this right?

EDIT: So I understand right? 2008 upgrade is reallly the full version but to access it you need previous serial #'s?

No,

as far as I know (I'm in EMEA, not USA) the LT as well as the full product are since "I cannot remember" full installs even when bought as upgrades. Autodesk initially "trusts" you to remove the old one when you install the new one. And BSA takes care of the rest by "listening" in on our conversations here...

Cheers,

Petri

Well I think you got confused with what I was saying, this whole time I have been talking about LT. What I meant was that the full install of LT is on the upgrade.

I havent had any experiece with LT but i would have thought that they would send you a "full version" of the "LT version" (that sounds a little confusing)

Or you could say it as a full install of LT on an upgrade disk. I think I will be fine once 2008LT gets here.

I changed my mind. The install is on a brand new computer. AutoCAD will prompt you for the previous version's serial number. It shouldn't be a problem.
