Hello there,

Could someone please tell me why when i select items out of view (i.e while panning across the screen) autoCAD 2005 only erases the items that are viewable in my current view and leaves the other items behind?

thank you.

Unfortunately in this case AutoCAD works by a principle "where I see there and I erase". Use _ZOOM... :(

Here's a similar problem which not many people are aware of:

Xref one drawing into another and zoom in so that you only have one entitiy of the xref visible on the screen. Now erase that (xref) entitiy using a window selection (don't select it specifically and don't use a crossing window). It shouldn't erase, but it will. Now zoom back out and the complete xref has gone.

I discovered this when I found a small dot well away from the main drawing I was working on. I zoomed in and erased it - with a window, so that if it was part of the architectural xref I wouldn't be erasing that, but the whole thing dissapeared. Took me a while to work out what was happening...
