View Full Version : Revit: Is it there yet?

To those guys using Revit, I have a few simple questions.
A. Is the software there yet? Meaning, are you confident in using it and can you do pretty much what you want?
B. How are you finding the industry resources with it? Training material, blocks (or whatever it is they are called), users.
C. How are you dealing with working in a project team, with consultants who don't use Revit?
D. If you had the option today, would you go back to ACAD and work purely with ACAD, or stick with Revit?
and finally E. Has anyone taken the step of using Revit entirely on its own, or are you running with Revit Suite?
Cheers

Hi,
i have been using Revit for a few months now, so im not completely clued up with its full power but i will answer best i can.
A: I would say that the software is getting there, 2009 will be alot better than 2008. With doing what you want, whatever i have gone to draw there has always been away to do it from within the program, sometimes you do need to cheat it a little but i think that is from in-experience of using the software to its full potential.
B. Resources in the UK are slim to say the least, but it depends what you are after - alot of things you can use 2d work (ie ACAD blocks to achieve what you want, also revitcity.com has a good library of stuff) the key is learning the inbuilt family maker.
C. Got no consultants using Revit i know of, one engineer is looking at changing to Revit Structural. So far drawings i have done have been sent as PDF.
D. No chance  but i would say you do need AutoCAD still as some stuff is quicker/easier in AutoCAD - ie location plans that come in DXF format, 2D stuff.
E. Revit Suite here, see above.
any other questions, i'll try my best to answer:)

I know of at least one major consultant who has started using Revit on many of its projects. It is a transitional process from ACAD though.
Their guys say that now they have made the leap from ACAD to Revit, they would never go back. But then, they didn't have much experience of ACAD either.
