I am running autocad 2008. When you create a polygonal viewport they dont allow you to lock it so whomever is working in the drawing doesnt accidentally change the scale...t least I dont think you can lock it. Is there a way to lock it?

freeze it?

Yes you can lock it, select, right-click, display locked, yes. or go through the properties palette.
Freezing it wont help as you can still enter the viewport and mess up the scale.

its a polygonal viewport selected from the viewport toolbar...When you create one of those, you dont get nearly as many options to change its properties as you do with regular viewports. So no, I cant select it and change it like you said. I dont get those options in the properties box.....

create the viewport shape first with a polyline then use the object options...this will create a viewport with all the standard tools available for it...

Go up to the list box at the top of the Properties palette. It will currently say "All(2)" Click the down arrow and select "Viewport(1)". This will allow you to access the viewport properties.

Is this not the same as using MVIEW {enter} Polygonal?

I have just tried and is working fine...

Well I am confused and not using acad 2008 yet, but why would they change that function or render it useless.. I don't see the point.. You can easily lock a polygon viewport in the properties list using 2007... I just don't get it.. Is this true, is the function really dead in 2008?

No it isn't dead in 2008.
Andy, sorry if this is a silly question, but when selecting the viewport, are you sure it is the viewport you are selecting, and not a polyline or something? select it and then open the properties palette and check what it says at the top.

Cheers

It's not dead and it hasn't changed. It's the same as it has always been. A Polygonal viewport is actually a polyline and a viewport. So when you select it and open the Properties palette, you have to specify which object you want to view the properties of, by selecting it in the list box at the top, as shown in my previous post.

You can also use _QSELECT to select the viewport.
