I know - rubbish title - but I'm struggling to keep it short

I've drawn a circle, drawn a line perpendicular and vertically to it's centre, produced a triangle using the vertica line and the quadrant point (not that that really exists in SketchUp, but that's a separate gripe), and have copied the base disc upwards

what I'm trying to do is to scale that second disc in to meet the diagonal of the triangle, and AutoCAD would let you do that with grips, presumably recognising where the plane intersected the diagonal line - but SketchUp doesn't

I'm going to give up and try another method, but can anybody tell me if this method should have worked and what I'm doing wrong?

Attach the file, as I have no idea what you are talking about, and I will see. I think I have an idea and it can be done pretty easily.

thanks :)

I'm not sure a triangle and a disc qualifies as a file yet!

*scurries off to find how to attach files*

hmmmm - *crosses fingers*

grrr - it doesn't like sketchup files or bitmaps

I dont know anything about sketchup, but you could use maths `similar triangles' to get the required radius of the second disc..
That is if you knew how much you moved/copied the second disc..

I know not a graphical answer but might help..

Draw your 1st circle, then your triangle. Now for the 2nd circle, start the circle command, move to the center of the other circle. When see the blue circle press and hold down the shift key to "lock" your axis. With the shift key held you can now move up the verticle live of the triangle and click on any point to start your new circle. Then pull out till you reach the edge of the angle line.

ooops - sorry - forgot about this thread

so can I tell it how far I want the second circle to be from the first?

Responding to an old post, probably you have your answer already,,, But, if you draw a line up the vertical of the triangle to whatever height you want the next circle, then when you draw your circle, SU will allow (snap) to that end of the line, at exactly the height you want it to be. In the attached pic, I drew a line 5' tall on the vertical, and used that as the stepping off point for my next circle.
