Are you here because you love to work in AutoCAD and you think that you need / can offer help? :)
Do you intend to answer to this message? Or maybe you visited us only once –for placing 4 times the same message... :(

I fear you are right Fuccaro. I just visited the site and many of the blocks are very familiar, some of them have even been taken from CADTutor without permission and without credit :reallymad:
For a long time now I have been meaning to expand the CADTutor Image Bank with more AutoCAD blocks. Anyone got block/symbols they'd like to share?
Between us I think we could do a better job :)

I visited that site too and I recognized THIS (http://cadtutor.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=443) image. But there is a possibility that our (ex?) friend Gary uploaded it... People are invited to upload dwg-s so there is no control over the origin of the files and also no responsibility for the site owner :(
Maybe if someone recognizes his own work he can ask the removal of that (or those few) file(s) but this will not make big difference.

What you say is true Fuccaro so it is strange that there is a legal notice on the site that says this:
The site's content can not be included in any web site, compilation CD's or product, either commercial, freeware or shareware. It can not be reposted on other web sites. (unless prior permission granted).
A case of the pot calling the kettle black! (old English saying).

Usually the Private Messages are... private. Probable it is not polite to make public a PM but I will make an exception and I will post here my answer.
Cben sent me a message apologizing for multiple the posts. To be honest: this is not for the first time in this forum when a new user sent a question in more places.
Cben also wrote that the model will be removed from the cben.net web site if I will point the URL.
Cben
You don't need to remove anything just because I said! How if the author himself sent it to you. I don't work for the CAD Police.
I will never send a model pretending that is mine if I am not the author but possible (probable) others will do that.
I think your system is not adequate letting any visitor to upload any model, but who am I to tell you how to manage your business?
I invite you to be an active member in this forum, bring your contribution, learn new tricks and you will discover how friendly people we are
:)

Here here!I totally agree with what youve said Fuccaro.I think alot of existing members get a bit fed up when they see a new member trying to sell their website or services. That is not why most of the existing members are here.

Cad Tutor Administrator,
You asked if anyone had blocks to share. I have some extrudeable
sections of mouldings (furniture/cabinet stuff) if any interest. These
can also be used without extruding in orthographic drawings for outside
corners.

The idea of a CAD block library at this site would, on the surface, appear to be most welcomed. However, if it were to come to past, would some guidance in the preperation of those blocks be in order? Or would this be too much to ask? I guess my concern would be that the blocks might be done to different standards than to one standard. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Suffice it to say, that if all blocks were constructed on layer "0", color white, linetype continuous and at full scale, might that be sufficient enough? I welcome your comments, suggestions and even criticisms. Regards to all.

hoo boy! I have used cben.net. I may have even recommended here a couple of times.
I have found a couple of timesavers that I downloaded, and when I didn't, I uploaded a couple after I created them. Seemed like a great idea at the time... fellow Cad slaves sharing their hard work to help ease the workload of another....you know, for the common good , and all that.
I would never imagine uploading someone elses work! but I guess I am an overly trusting soul.
I will admit, the site seemed slow and poorly organized, and I had to sift through a lot of poorly drawn details, but there are some gems on there, and it did save me some work.
I never imagined that I was downloading stolen work! My apologies. I only hope that cben keeps his word and removes the offending files.

I have a lot of blocks I have created and would welcome a chance to share them with this crowd.
I addition to the standards suggestion, It would be nice it they were all drawn as mentioned, but with a question. Should each block be it's own drawing, or should similar blocks be grouped with-in one file?

These are all very interesting suggestions and, in fact, I will shortly begin work on a new module for the CADTutor site that will become a block library. Any ideas at this stage are most welcome.
My priority would be to make sure that the blocks on offer here are of the highest quality and conform to any standards that we set. I see no point in providing thousands of blocks of dubious quality. I'd rather see a more limited range of top quality stuff.
Do let me know what you think.

I look forward to browsing for blocks!
I agree, that standards should be set and met by all submissions.
Good luck.

High quality blocks, drawn with good standards and free? Did I just die and go to CAD heaven? It sounds almost unbelieveable. I would definitely consider contributing. Would there be some kind of quid-pro-quo?

I haven't worked out the details yet but it would seem logical to give some sort of incentive for contributors. Any suggestions welcome.

This could be a starting point:
Public Domain Blocks
Not Have XDATA Attached
Not Have Reactors
Not Contain Groups
Not Be Dynamic Blocks
Not Contain XREFs
Submittal should list:
* General description of the item
* 2D or 3D
* File size
* CAD Program & Version which the models are comapatible
* Whether there are 3D Solids used
* Public Domain Declaration by the Author
* Be in a ZIP format and include any decals required
Layer conventions would be a bear to try to standardize. -David

Thanks David, that's a good check list.
I should be starting the new module in a week or so. I'm just putting the finishing touches to a new "Links" module and I'll showcase that shortly.

This could be a starting point:
Not Be Dynamic Blocks
Why not? A dynamin block will have full functionality for people using AutoCAD 2k6 (and newer :D ) and partially for the others.
About the layers: keep they number as low as possible. Maybe like this:
Thin_lines
Thick_lines
Dimensions
Text
Being consequents with the layer names will help people to integrate the blocks in they own CAD standard

I think that these all are great ideas! I would love to contribute some of the stuff that I have and would also like to have a look at some of the stuff that others contribute. I think that if possible we could seperate the blocks into individual sections (ie. Architectural, mechanical, hvac, plumbing, site plans) there is a website that I've gone to and looked at a lot of great block...I think that it was actually a military website...oh here it is... https://cadlib.wes.army.mil/DetailsLibrary/ The way that it's organized is great...easy to find what you're looking for. As far as the layering for it all we or the site admin could put together an easy to use set of layers. even if it's just layer1 layer2 layer 3. I know that when I draw say a wall section I draw the parapet details on another layer and freezing the layers in the viewports rather than copying that part of the drawing.
Just some suggestions...let me know what you think.

hello folks,
Has anyone got a 2D Acad drawing of a bottlescrew, my terminology might not used by everyone on here, so i will explain...
Its a rigging device used with shackles and ropes, has a tubular body with left and right internal screw thread at each end. You have either a hook or pin type arrangement at each end. You can adjust the length of the assembly to pull rigging tight by turning the central body
It would be great if anyone can help, any size will do as I can scale it up
cheers,
Macc
