In autocad i usually type 1#8 to get that fraction. How do you do this in Inventor?

In the dimension/constraint box - 1/3 would be a third.
You can crate all sorts of sums and equations in the sketch constraint/dimenison box, potentially a power full tool for you.

In AutoCAD pound sign (#) stacks text diagonally, separated by a diagonal line. ⅛ - like this. Last time I checked this is not possible yet in Inventor. In fact you can’t stack text at all, diagonally or vertically. You can however use the Windows character map or enter the corresponding ALT codes on the keyboard.
