:? Ok my Cad brothers, here's the problem:
I'm working on a drawing created by one of my co-workers, but whenever I try to insert a block, using the Block Insert dialog, I get a "Block Insertion Failed" Error message. If I try to drag and drop from Design Center, I get an *Invalid* response at the command line.
I have Purged and Audited the drawing and fixed the problems that were found.
This problem only exists in this one drawing. All other drawings are fine.
This person isn't in today, so I can't go talk to them and find out what they did to this drawing. Anybody have any clues as to what might be causing this?
Edit: I just found out that if I stay in the drawing for more than 10 minutes, I get a Fatal Error and Autocad closes down. Looks like I will have to just recreate this drawing in a new file.
Edit Again: I just found out that the other drawing this person did has the same problem. So now I have two files to fix.
Oh lucky me!

I used to have the same problem with block insertion in a drawing which was created in ADT 2006 and resaved in ACAD 2007 (I'm using ACAD 2006) but I'm not sure that the problem appears after this exact succession. The problem was solved by saving as R12 *.dxf , but the main part of settings (such text style, tables, fields etc) was lost.

WOW.. So I am not the only person that has come accross this then, awesome.. I had the same problem and it did not matter if you inserted it as block, copy with base point and insert as a block or audit the file and fix errors. the only way to get around this was to recreate a new drawing, copy the contents of the drawing into this newly created file without the block that is causing the problem, and then try to reinsert the block into the newly created file again, if the same thing occurs the block is damaged and can not be fixed and will have to be recreated fresh. It has only happened to me twice in my 14 years of doing cad and sometimes it can not be fixed.. Don't worry, you are not alone in this plight and even if you are a cad god, anyone would have problems fixing this dilemma..
Oh i forgot to mention, if the block has autocad 3D shapes mixed with third party shapes of any kind the file will corrupt permenantly..

Thanks for the replies. :)
I finally gave up trying to fix the files and just recreated them. Maybe later, when I have some time, I will go back to the original files and try to find the offending entities that are corrupting those drawings. But for now, I'm back on track and moving forward.

Ok, update time.
I just opened that problem drawing in 2008 and block insertion works fine. For whatever reason, 2007 doesn't like it. The file was originally created in 2006.
Just another one of those great Autocad mysteries. :?

What version were the files saved as?
Does everyone have the latest updates for their version?
AutoCAD can get strange sometimes. :?

Files were created over a year ago on 2006 and saved in 2004 format.
Everyone is on either '07 or '08, all installations are up to date.
Files open and work correctly on '08 but not on '07. I guess I will just have to reluctantly start using '08. It's been sitting on my machine for a year. :geek:
