View Full Version : Inventor 9 and AutoCAD 2004 (and 2005) Compatibility

Compatibility might be a confusing term, so let me explain what my question really is.

In my company we use AutoCAD 2002 and Mechanical Desktop 5.

Alghough you can open Mechanical Desktop DWG files in AutoCAD 2002, view and print, you cannot modify the model, unless you blow it up.

Can you do the same with AutoCAD 2005 and Inventor 9 (which included the latest version of Mechanical Desktop). I hear that there is an export/import feature in each of AutoCAD 2005 and Inventor 9, but without that export/import function, are you able to do the above.

No one seems to have a concrete answer to this, even the reseller(s) are stumped. They all want to sell me Inventor 9 and get rid of AutoCAD, but my engineers don't need 3D and all the expense associated with Inventor 9.
