Can't say that I know of one off hand. You could try the Autodesk website for one of their Authorized Training Centers (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=7235383&linkID=9241175). I learned on my own by watching training DVD's.

And keep in mind at an ATC, training costs are around £150 a day.

I don't know about any schools that just train for 3ds max but I took a 3d AutoCAD class at Orange Coast College and we used 3ds max for most of it- we just learned the basics but it might be good to get you familiar with it.

being it's so-cal, there must be plenty of 3d animation schools considering the density of the entertainment buiz down there...have you tried to contact a local college and see if they have any sudgestions?..

It wasn't just 3D AutoCAD- obviously :) - I described it wrong. Here is the class description from the OCC site-
Introduction to 3D CAD:
Basic three-dimensional design/drafting and visualization course for all drafters. Students use 3D CAD software to create digital models and presentation drawings.

We had to draw a model of a famous house- I did the Villa Savoye- in AutoCAD and then we imported it into 3ds max and did some other stuff to it.

No haven't posted it.
It's on a flash drive at my house. I'll try and remember to bring it with me to work and post it. (It's not anything really exciting- I wasn't that great at using 3ds max  )
