Is there a way to setup a contraint that simulates a static barrier? Let's just say we have an empty box and an object inside. Is it possible to constrain the object so that it's range of movement is restricted to only the space inside of the box?

Contact Set
Activate Contact Solver

or

Dynamic Simulation if you have Pro.

Yes! Perfect! Thank you!

Yes! Perfect! Thank you!

Great, you figured it out just from the Help files?
I was in a hurry and thought for sure you would come back and ask for an example.

It really gets fun when you start experimenting with Dynamic Simulation.

Here is what I was playing er... experimenting with today.

Now that's just cool!

I only have Inventor 2009 suite. I'd love to play with the simulation (even though it has nothing to do with my job). Yeah I figured it out from the help files. It's all pretty straight forward stuff. The contact solve is perfect for testing door swing outs on cabinets.

is contact solver can also move a cylinder(vessel) using a hydrolic jack, to rig up and down?

Or other standard constraints.

Mr T. (guys) check this out.....

this is what im refering off, on the arrow side i will put a hydrolic jack... my question is how will simulate it by riggiing it down and up...?

on .ipn format its jsut moving around and left and right i need to also the vessel while the whole part is simulating... and it will also move even it is not in .ipn format?

1 more thing it may be silly situation but pls understand me, im using inventor 11 but in french language ( the reason is i want to explore it better) and i have inventor 9 in english so what i do is if there is something i cant understand in 11(word problem) i go to 9... so in my question what ever answer i will get here i will do it on 9 then i will try it on 11 since all my jobs is in 11 and i cant open it in 9... so pls answer should be work in inventor 9...

it may be strange why i do this but pls understand...

I'm a beginner with Inventor, but I think you need to do all of your constraints in the assembly file, which is .iam. Then you can take it .ipn to do what you need. I don't know if .ipn is meant for making animations. Is that what you're trying to do? I think "Inventor Studio" is meant for that. Oh and about the cylinder, I think you can achieve what you want by using constraints and not using the contact solver. I'm not sure though since the drawing is a little hard to interpret.
