HI.

I have started to use e-refs at a new job but have never used them before.

Please can someone give me their opinion on how they would prepare a drawing that is to be used as an x-ref drawing.

Is there anything special that needs to be carried out to make it the best possible drawing to be used as an x-ref.

Many thanks

the basic thing you can keep in mind you need to use layers for diferent entities in a drawings i.e walls, door, furniture, text, dim etc. if you are not doing your regular drawings so that way. that will help you manage certain elements u don't want to show in some of the drawings.

Also carefully think about the folder & subfolder arrangemnt, u want to be using for this project. and from the begining whenever you x-ref any file, always use relative path. though path can be changed alter on, it will be good practice to set it up right in the begining.

You should look at the similar threads at the bottom of this post, or can run serch & view other related threads to understand. than after doign a bit of research on your own, you cna come here & ask specific questions about the difficulties you are having.

Before Xreffing the drawing:

If the xref drawing has come from an outside source, always save an unaltered copy of it into an Originals folder. That way, you can always go back to it if necessary. Never alter the original file.

Make sure all the layers in the xref drawing have their color and linetype set to ByLayer. This will allow you to easily change these properties directly from the host file if necessary.

PURGE the file to get rid of any excess clutter in the drawing.

AUDIT the file to fix any errors that may be present. Any errors in the xref drawing will cause problems with the host drawing.
