As far as I know Inventor 20088 files cannot be opened in Inventor 2007.
You can get a file from 2008 to 2007 by saving the drawing as a STEP file (.stp). Then use Inventor 2007 to open the .stp file and save it back into Inventor format.
AutoCAD 2008 can "save as" in the following .dwg file formats: 2007, 2004, 2000 and R14.

in anycase for me its really strange i know autocad is different with inventor but they are come from same manufacturer...
and since that not most of the user can comply in every version of inventor let say they cant buy every version release so what happent to the lower version user if they are working with the updated user???
i mean let say im working with the other company and that company send us a drawing which is done in a updated inventor version and we are just behing of 1 version? so its mean we are just enjoying a year of full used of inventor that can open any version of inventor?
i know it will be rarely happen but what if in some cases?
sorry for my bad english...

  lol
yeh remark is on the correct path use the step method or somethng similiar, its just the same old trick where the manufacturer tries to keep the customer buying the latest editions yearly to keep up to scratch:wink:

This in not just an AutoDesk thing this is true for ALL parametric modelers (for now...). AutoCAD does not keep a feature history so when all is said and done the file is just lines. You can save an older version and it will strip out anything that can't be read.
With Inventor, there is a model tree that stores information about each process. New tools added to the program are not recognizable in older versions, this could cause rebuild errors when you tried to edit a feature that was based on something that doesn't exist in that version. You might ask why can't you open files that only use tools available in the previous version. This is because when new tools are added to the program the code for the existing features needs to change to support them, so technically the "old" tools are nothing of the sort as far as the old versions of the program are concerned.

You can get a file from 2008 to 2007 by saving the drawing as a STEP file (.stp). Then use Inventor 2007 to open the .stp file and save it back into Inventor format.
To add to this, remember if you save as a Step file you will loose all the history involved into building the model.

Which you might be able to recover using the Feature Recognition add-in from http://labs.autodesk.com
