Xref does not change to new color.?

I have a Drawing with xref's I want to change one of the xref's to be color #8. I open the base drawing change the color to be #8 (All objects are color by layer) I save the drawing
and open the drawing containing the revised xref and it's original coler remains it does not change to color #8.??? The only way for it to change is to detach and re attach the xref.?
How do I get the xref to update to the corect color.???

you need to set your VISRETAIN variable to 0 in the file that has the XREF in it. Go back to the XREF, Save, then reload the changes back in the working file. Be sure to set your VISRETAIN back to 1, because if you have layers freezed, or viewports set up, it will knock the settings out with every save of the XREF file. :)
