AutoCAD 2008 Xref dosen't work

Hello Masters and all,

Long time observer first time post. My external reference command in AutoCAD 2008 cease to work and shows this message below:

Command: _EXTERNALREFERENCES
** EXTERNALREFERENCES command not allowed during reference editing **

I have repeatedly checked that my reference edit is closed after using it. What causes this problem? I have to close my drawing and re-open it.

Any opinion will be appreciated.

Does this happen in every drawing or just this one?

If it's just this one, PURGE the drawing and then run an AUDIT and see if there are any errors. Also, PURGE and AUDIT all Xrefs attached to your drawing. You may also need to Detach and then Re-Attach the Xrefs.

Yes. It happens all the time to all of my drawings - 2D or 3D. I never forget to use purge and audit all the time. Although the plans I am referencing are works in progress and being worked on by other people. I'll check on those plans.

I am actually doing a 3D model of those plans and referencing the floor plans to my 3D file.

Yep. I've checked all the reference plans and they are all clean - nothing to be purged, 0 errors on audits.
