(Civil 3D 2008 - Land Desktop Companion)
When trying to re-load a linetype file that I have just purged from the drawing, I keep getting and error when the linetype manager trys to load most of the lintypes in the file (including the main one I need). The error reads BAD Linetype Definition - cannot load this linetype, and then the loader moves onto the next one, so on and so forth. Anyone have any suggestions??? This is getting a bit frustrating... :?

Sorry, I dont think that I'm following you, are you saying that I should like copy the text from the file itself into another one or into the dwg? (BTW Its not text in the lintype its a series or parenthesis, underscores, and such to represent a treeline or shrub line)

No

He wants you to open the .lin with a text editor such as Notepad "select all", copy, then past it here between Code Tags, so we can have a look at the file.

Have you tried loading the linetype in another drawing? This will tell you if the problem is with the .lin file or with the drawing.

Also, try running an AUDIT on the drawing to see if there are any errors.

You are probably missing a referenced SHP file.

Here Is everything that the .lin file has for this linetype. Is this what you wanted?

I just had someone else in my office not using Civ 3D copy the linetype into my dwg and I can see it now and it is showing up in my base dwg. But as soon as I xref it though it goes back to a that same (wrong) linetype consisting of a dot, dot ,dash.

Also, I have the correct shape file.

And I tried the AUDIT and it came up with no errors.

OK, now I still have no idea whats going on with the linetype manager and I still get that same error while trying to load those linetypes (but only from that certain .lin file). But I figured out a way to get the linetype to show up in my dwg. First I tried to copy a similar line (and type) from another dwg in modelspace but it didnt work. So, I then copyied it into paper space and "poof" it appeared. I then used the CHSPACE command and transferred it into model space from paper space and it worked.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I appreciate it.

That sounds like the bug described here (http://www.texupport.net/cadinfo/autocad-land-desktop/complex-linetypes-which-contain-shapes-to-not-display-properly.html).

I believe that you are right. That sounds exactly like what was going on.

If I try to load the usual acad.lin, or the linetype files from my company everything goes smoothly, but whoa be unto me if I try to load my Tri-Service.lin (complex images) I get that "bad definition" error for almost everyone of them. That only with my Land Desktop though, If I boot up my Full Version ACAD 2008 it will load fine.

That sounds like the required SHP file cannot be found while you are in LDT.
