How do I draw stair railings in Sketchup, I can't figure out how to make the railing step down with the stairs? Thanks for any help!

- Use "Follow Me" to push or pull a surface along a path, quickly
create stair railings, crown moldings & tubing.

I am very new to sketchup, but its seems pretty user friendly. I have been playing with it for about a month. I want to download an existing railing from google, and apply it to some stairs I already have drawn, so "follow me" tool will help with that?

Not really.
Draw your stairs, then create a profile of the railing, then create a "path" for the profile to follow...
use the "follow-me" command and drag the mouse along the "path".
I can post a step by step DIY if you would like.

Okay profile and path are new to me, but just using "follow me" did not work, got an error message.
Is Sketchup worth learning over cad 3d? If you were going to take the time to learn one of those, which one is better?

Sketchup is great at doing what it does. I wouldn't say 1 or the other as you can do different things with each.

below you'll see the "Quick Reply" box, and beneath that there are 2 buttons, "post Quick Reply" and "Go Advanced"
Click "Go Advanced" and you'll see a button for "Manage Attachments", click that and it will pop up a window for you to upload your file.
