Hi there,

Does anybody know if there is such a thing as an "add-on" for AuotCAD 2000, in which point-to-point electrical wires can be drawn to for schematic/wiring diagram purposes?

I'm an electrical engineer with only a basic knowledge of CAD but wondered if there was actually such a thing, or should I just start dropping some big hints for the company to splash-the-cash on ACAD Electrical?

By the way - with respect to ACAD Electrical - is it mainly for electronics applications, e.g. control systems, PLCs, PCBs, etc., or is it suitable for electrical power distribution as well, e.g. single-phase and three-phase schematics, lighting wiring diagrams, etc.?

Many thanks.

As my thinking, E.E do not need to use AutoCAD for that function :)

I bealive you can add on to any autocad the PROMISE-E SOFTWARE, it is a plug in that will install with autocad

I hope this would help!!

or there's e-plan - I wasn't fussed on that though. Maybe I needed to use it more to get used to it

our new owners are "encouraging" us to try e-plan but at the moment we have a disagreement with the suppliers over how much we should pay. :)

I was told recently that Electrical 2009 is available in the UK for 30 day trial. (2008 was only available in the USA)

I think I read that somewhere too - or was it free online tutorials?

can't remember

it was on the Autodesk website whatever it was

Noop, not finding anything of much use in that department now :(

I was told at a recent 2009 launch. I went to the P&ID talk and they said all versions are now available in the UK for trial runs.

The free online tutorials are available on subscription. I don't know if they are free to everyone. (Must go and look again - see if I can get higher marks this time)

I wish they'd update their website then :glare:
