Anyone know if its possible for me to import plant models into Sketchup that are not Sketchup files? I have a program on my computer called Landscape Pro. Its not a great program, but has good plants. Any ideas on how to put them in to Sketchup?

Can this program export .3ds, .dwg or .obj (with plug-in) files? If so then you can go this route but be careful, high ploy objects and SU do not mix well.
Might be best to model in SU and then export to this landscape program? I have done this when I have used Vue and Bryce for plants to use with a SU model.
Good luck :)

The Landscape Pro prgram wont import the files you listed I dont think, at least I know it won't .dwg files. I can import the Sketchup drawing into it, but it drops things, like the arms on the chairs. So I would like to be able to import the plants from LP into sketchup.

Thanks for the links, I have spent some time searching the 3d warehouse for plants, there are good trees, but I can not find any good shrubs. I guess a lot of L.A. don't use sketchup, this is what I will contribute to sketchup when I get better, well drawn shrubs :)

Hello,
Another option to get the type of shrub you want is to save the acutal image of the shrub as a PNG. Then you can make a square face in sketchup and make it a componet. When that windo pops up to make the componet there is a option beside a white square that says always face camera. Select that option... Then double click the componet. Create a texture, there should be a option to attach a file (picture) to the texture. You do that (find the PNG file you saved) then use your brush tool and paint the face. If you find that your shrub is to small once you apply it to the face you can right click on the face (with the texture applied) then select texture>Position.. It will then bring up 4 blocks on the texture. These are grips, you find the green one and strech it. This will make the texture bigger.. Then you move it to fit you componet.
Sounds like alot of steps, but once you do it one time its easy to do. The reason why you use a PNG file. A png file makes white transparent. The png of your shrub should have a white background.
I have had the same trouble with finding tree 3d models.. its hard to find one that you like and looks good for free. This is the next best thing... in my book... Hope this helps and it wasent to confusing..
Matt
