Hi, my names paigan and im completely new to 3d modeling!
im doing an imedia course at college and we've been told to recreate the villa savoye, inside and out in 3ds max...
...the problem is our tutor has never used the program and we've just been given a few basic tutorials...so i was wondering if anyone knows of any decent tutorials for recreating the villa savoye in 3ds max?
any help will be much appreciated!

i can't think of any tutorials off hand but honestly i think this may be beyond that...
what concerns me the most is that your teacher knows nothing of 3d max?..i think you, and your classmates, should be talking to the dean of the school...

i appreciate your concern! we've had multiple projects where he's admitted he has no experience with the programs. most of the class has just struggled through experimenting but with this project we only have a couple of weeks so its getting quite stressful!

I seriously doubt you are going to find any tutorials specifically for creating the villa savoye. But if you Google "3DS max tutorials" you will find hundreds of tutorials for Max, covering just about everything. There are probably more free Max tutorial sites online than there are for any other program. Just start browsing. That's how I started out. Then, if you want to get a deeper understanding of the program and the tools and techniques, there are many sites that offer training dvd's that you can purchase.
I can't believe that you are paying for Max training from a guy who knows nothing of the program. I would demand my money back.

yeah im not really finding anything specifically for the villa savoye, which is annoying because theres a few tutorials for it in other programs but that doesnt really help that much!
its not too bad, im in the uk so get free education until im 19, so im not paying for the course! its a really broad course and its not just 3d modeling so he knows a bit about other programs like photoshop and flash, just nothing when it comes to 3d modeling.

Paigan, you said that you have found tutorials for this project that apply to other programs? Can't you just take the general concept from those other tutorials and use that knowledge as a base to work from in Max? It's true that all programs use different commands and terminology, but the basic principles of 3D modeling hold true for most 3D applications. You just have to sort of read between the lines.

I took a 3D class and we had pretty much the same project you have. But we did the model in ACAD and then rendered it in 3DS. I did the Villa Savoye too.
Do you guys have a book that you are using?
Here is something I found- they rcommend a book- http://www.archiseek.com/content/showthread.php?t=4137
Sounds like a pretty hard class. I was having a hard time and my teacher knew the program. Hope it all works out!
