OBJECTIVE: Have old metes/Bounds/bearings paper map and want to draw them in ACAD. I have a tie in at a known monument. I want to start a line at that tie-in and then use the distance and bearing to get to the next point.

OR: I plotting a route on a map using bearing and distance.

EXAMPLE: Starting at point "A", I want to draw a line 594.17 feet bearing N64d15'22"E to point "B". The bearing is quadrant compass, but in this case it equals 64d 15' 22" Azimuth or ~ENE or , ~64 degrees East of North.

PROBLEM: While I can change the units/direction in ACAD, I can't seem to change it to the right selection to get what I want. What am I missing?

EDIT: For clarity, When I try 50<N60DE, I'm expecting an Azimuth of 60 degrees (ENE). I get an Azimuth of 30 degrees.

first thing you have to do, is set your units up.

Go to UNITS

Set the units up as you want them, BUT, important..........click the Clockwise box. Then go to Direction, and set up where you want the north point to be. I have always found this aspect to be a bit tricky. More about trial and error here. It has never worked first time for me.

Yeah - no kidding. The problem was I had to uncheck the clockwise box once I set to "survey" unit/direction. That makes no sense to me, but it worked. These are the little things I wish could be fixed/tuned up a bit.

Thanks for the help!
