Multiple Layout Publishing in C3D not working

For some reason I cannot background publish multiple layouts in Civil '08. I keep getting an "unexpected error". It works if I turn background printing off.
So what I'm currently doing is jumping back into my old AutoCAD 2007 (not civil) and background publishing from there.

Anyone else strike this problem??

I can't address that particular problem, but I find it surprising that you prefer to use background publishing. It takes 10-20 times longer here to background publish.

It's much easier to let it publish normally and open another session to continue working if necessary.

I got that message the other day for some reason. I just republished and it worked the second time.

rkmcswain, where do you change the setting for background publishing? I'll check the F1 in the meantime.
