Can anyone point me in the right (weblink) direction/ give me some creative ideas for presenting rather dull/ basic 2d drawings in black & white.

I wish to present something graphical and 'designed' from basic cad plans/sections/elevations.

I won't be using photoshop etc so it's just experimenting with line weights etc but it'd be helpful to see how others jazz it up.

What type of drawings are we talking about? Architectural, mechanical, structural, other? Mechanical drawings can really "pop" with the judicious use of hatches. Architectural drawings can benefit from shadow lines and hatch patterns too. Whatever one does, don't overwhelm the viewer. Too much of a good thing can be just as bad as not enough.

and what software are you using, including which release.
Thanks.

Go to your local library and check out Architectural Drafting and Design, fifth edition, by Alan Jefferis and David A. Madsen. You'll find plenty of examples to guide you. Back in the "board" days a draftsman might poche' the walls to make them stand out (a series of lightweight parallel lines within the wall cavity. Nowadays, I think some architects might elect to fill the wall cavities in with a very dense hatching. Keep dimensions, notes, callouts, etc. in a lighter lineweight.

sounds like the examples i'm looking for are in that book.

think i'll google Architectural Drafting & Design and see if any interesting sites pop out.

haven't got time to go to library.

pushpullbar com is good for sketchup creative examples but i'm looking for plain ol' 2d inspiration.

Ok, experiment with different font styles. Different fonts for different aspects of the drawings. Don't be afraid to use color in a 2D design but don't use it just to show color (yeah hard to explain that one). Maybe color swatches of the finished materials. Maybe use some jpgs as superhatches to spruce up your drawing. Experiment with these and look at some examples to get your "own" style. Good luck :)

OK, here is an example of using hatches and colors in a drawing.
A simple front elevation....http://f700es.googlepages.com/Front.jpg
Now here is an example with hatches...

And now still is an example of adding some color...

Now this can be done in any full AutoCAD from 2004 and up. Now take this and add in your annotations and dims to get a unique style to your CDs.

A little bit of lustre goes a long ways towards making a drawing have some character. Nice work f700es.

You may still get Autodesk Impression, exactly what you need.

we use this in the office as well as doing presentations of 2d stuff in Autocad. Great program.
